As some of you may know, I'm a huge geek and I absolutely love looking into the past to inspire my creative conciousness. The other day whilst I was working, I was invited down to The Whitworth Gallery to attend a meeting regarding culture within Manchester. It was an absolute dream, and I was proud to learn more about this amazing up and coming city.
We had a short tour of the gallery itself, and from what I saw it was fantastic. I especially enjoyed looking at the Chinese textiles. The clothing itself was amazing. They also show paintings, some wonderful photography, and some great drawings.
After my tour of The Whitworth Gallery, I decided to take myself down to the Manchester Museum. I saw that they had an amazing exhibition on called 'Animal Mummies.' Unfortunately it had recently stopped, so I didn't have a chance to see it for myself, but they seemed to be moving a new exhibition in revolving around Neanderthals.
The museum is absolutely fantastic and there is no charge. It's a great day out! Has one of the largest and most important Egyptian collections in the country, a great collection of stuffed mammals and a huge Prehistoric collection including a T-rex! They are also showing Maude a Tigon (Cross between a Tiger and a Lion) that has been waiting to go on display after 65 years! So get yourself down Oxford Road and enjoy the wonders that await you within.
See you soon,
